Simple Timeline sample diagram for Visio 2010

See how you can use intelligent shapes to build a timeline with this sample diagram, created as a companion to the Visio 2010 MVP Sessions, Video 1. MVP Sessions Video 1 highlights how to create different diagrams from appropriate out-of-the-box templates that each include relevant shape stencils and sometimes include unique, template-specific capabilities. This sample diagram was generated from the Timeline template and features intelligent shapes that can automatically snap to appropriate locations and visually adjust with changes to dates and milestones. You can experiment with this diagram to see how intelligent shapes make it easier to build any kind of timeline.

The diagram you can see here is a web view of the template, published through Visio Services. Using the controls at the top, you can change which section of the template you see, zoom in or out for a closer or wider view, and even see linked data sources through the shape information pane.

With Visio Services and either Visio Professional 2010 or Visio Premium 2010, you can publish any type of diagram (static or data-linked) to SharePoint, so others can view the diagram without needing to have Visio installed on their machines.
