IT Asset Management sample diagram for Visio 2010

System requirements                   Instructions                   Additional resources                    Online view

Use this Microsoft Visio 2010 sample diagram to document your existing or proposed IT hardware configuration and topology. This sample shows how you can use Visio 2010 to track the deployment, configuration, and usage status of different IT assets, such as file servers, web servers, and database servers. It uses built-in shapes in Visio 2010 for rack-mounted equipment, servers, network and peripherals, and network locations, automatically linked to imported sample data. By customizing the sample diagram and linking to your own data, such as from your management software, you can quickly build an at-a-glance view into your IT asset inventory. You could also use a sample like this to document the proposed configuration and topology of new IT assets.

The diagram you can see here is a web view of the sample diagram, published through Visio Services. Using the controls at the top, you can change which section of the diagram you see, zoom in or out for a closer or wider view, and even see linked data sources through the shape information pane.

With Visio Services and either Visio Professional 2010 or Visio Premium 2010, you can publish any type of diagram (static or data-linked) to SharePoint, so others can view the diagram without needing to have Visio installed on their machines.
